Working Telecoms are raising funds for jacksplace@naomihouse

On Sunday 18 April Sandra Ingram, our Customer Services advisor, will be taking part in a tandem skydive from 10,000 feet to raise money for jacksplace@naomihouse.

Naomi House provides support to children, with life-limiting conditions, and their families from across the Wessex Region.

Advances in medicine and technology mean that some children, who previously would have died at a very young age, now live into early adulthood with complex and long term healthcare needs.

Within the Trust’s catchment area it is estimated that there are between 180-300 young people aged 13-24 with palliative care needs. Currently only 64 young people within this age range are known to us. The new hospice will enable us to reach those who do not currently use us and provide them with a facility that meets their particular needs.

Respite care for life-limited young adults is extremely limited across the UK. Adult hospices provide an excellent service but their focus is largely on older patients with very different needs, such as end of life rather than respite. None offer respite specifically for those in their late teens and early twenties.

jacksplace will mean that the young people who stay there are cared for in an environment that specifically meets their needs. The services and resources of the new hospice will help families cope with the challenges of caring for a young adult with a life-limiting condition. All of the features within the building are being designed to ensure that they provide privacy, independence and dignity to all the young people that will use it.

jacksplace has been built in the grounds of Naomi House. Providing a convenient location, at the centre of our region, and permitting the Trust to share facilities, staffing and overhead costs. It will provide familiar surroundings to enable young people to have a smooth transition from Naomi House.

Keep Your Business Running Efficiently During the Bad Weather
January 2010

Have you thought about your staff working from home?  Not only could you save money on lighting, power and heating costs in the office, but you could also save on travel costs and save your staff time as they would not need to complete unnecessary journeys to and from the office, making them more efficient.

By working from home and being linked to the office telecoms network you are able to access the same facilities as if you were in the office;

  • Make phone calls from the office network showing the Calling Line Identification number (CLI).
  • Answer incoming office calls.
  • Transfer calls internally.
  • Hold and partake in Conference calls.
  • Access voicemail (if utilised in office).
  • All calls between the office and home-worker are free.
  • Send and receive facsimiles.

If this is of interest to you and you would like further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Working Telecoms continues To Support Mercy Ships
October 2009

During 2009 Working Telecoms has continued to support and donate to Mercy Ships in Africa.  Mercy Ships are dedicated to providing free specialised medical care to the people of Africa.

Their ship, the Africa Mercy, recently arrived in Benin, West Africa for a 10 month medical mission.  The volunteer crew will provide free medical care and community development services to the people of this impoverished country, which ranks 163rd out of the 177 poorest nations in the world.  This is their forth visit to Benin in the last decade and they have provided high-quality cataract surgeries to 1,116 patients through the Mercy Vision Project.  However, in 2009 alone they expect to provide up to 3,000 cataract surgeries which will have a major impact on the vision needs of this country.

The Hope Reborn Project will specifically address the surgical needs of 140 women with obstetric fistula and the Outlook of Hope Project will reduce the effects of neglected trauma, disease, and congenital conditions by providing specialised surgery for over 750 people, including children, affected by maxillofacial conditions such as tumors, burn contractures and cleft lipt and palate.
