Implications of OFCOM 0870 Number Changes. | |
|
What are they proposing? Ofcom has proposed that 0870 numbers cost the same as UK landline numbers beginning 01 and 02. It is also proposing calls to 0870 numbers be included as part of any inclusive call minutes or discount schemes for geographic calls. This will reduce the price of many 0870 calls. When will this happen? 1st August 2009 How will this impact your business? As from the 1st August you will no longer be able to revenue share from 0870 numbers. You will have to pay for part of the call, along with your customer. As a result this will become a cost to the business. What are your choices? 1) Retain the 0870 number and pay the difference. 2) Change to 0844 or 0871 numbers, and set up a message on the old number to inform callers of the new number. You will still be charged per minute for the call, but the call will only be the length of the message, you can phase this service out after a period of time. 3) Change to a new 03XX number (these are charged at the same rate as local/national calls).
